Bruno Eduardo Vasques Costa, completed his Masters degree in Bioinformatics and Computacional Biology from the Faculdade de Ciência da Universidade de Lisboa in 2015, he finished his graduate degree in Biochemistry in 2010 from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia and is undergoing a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico – Universidade de Lisboa. Bruno has published 8 articles in journals and has 1 section(s) in a book. With emphasis on work with sRNAs, and the development of open science standards, for metadata annotation (MIAPPE) and the provision of metadata via a decentralized database in the form of API calls focused on plant metadata (BrAPI). He has supervised the course completion work for the LSc of one student and provided aid to several Master students working in the Bioinformatics field related with sRNAs. He has experience in teaching 2 bioinformatics classes at the graduate level in ISPA and ESTB/IPS, as well as provided courses in introduction to python and R. In his participation in research fellowships he was interacted with more than 100 international collaborators. One of the most important project he was involved in was ELIXIR-Excelerate, where he participated in the definition and implementation of open science standards, MIAPPE and BrAPI, which he has since generated multiple outputs in the form of scientific papers, oral presentations and posters. In his PhD he is developing machine learning algorithms to predict miRNAs targets based on RNA-seq data, to mitigate the prevalence of false positives of in-silico approaches.
